This makes high-speed rail one of the most convenient ways to travel between Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou without hiring a private vehicle.

The Jiuzhaigou–Mianyang Expressway Is Fully Open

A major improvement came on September 29, 2025, when the G8513 Jiuzhaigou–Mianyang Expressway (九绵高速) fully opened to traffic.

Previously, driving from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou commonly required more than eight hours, depending on the mountain route.

Under favorable conditions, Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou County can take approximately four hours. However, this does not mean four hours to the national park entrance.

For practical trip planning, allow around 5–6 hours from central Chengdu to a hotel near the national park entrance, including reasonable flexibility for traffic and rest stops.

In September 2026, a CNY 99 intercity coach service was introduced between Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou County via the new expressway.

However, the train does not go directly to the national park.

Step 2: Arrive at Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station

Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station is located in Chuanzhusi Town, Songpan County, not inside Jiuzhaigou National Park.

The station is approximately 93 kilometers from the park entrance.

Even though the train journey from Chengdu is relatively short, travelers still need around two hours of road transportation to reach Jiuzhaigou.

Do not book a hotel near the railway station unless you specifically plan to stay in the Songpan or Chuanzhusi area.
